It’s not every day that we can pick Russell’s brain, so his new book is a welcomed addition to any businessman’s and marketer’s library.
Straight to the point, Expert Secrets Book: The Underground Playbook for Creating A Mass Movement of People Who Will Pay for Your Advice is an extremely powerful resource for newbies and pros alike in the world of business, sales, and marketing. It’s one big blueprint for incredible impact all bound into a single book.

You will spend a portion of the section having Russell mentor you through a series of questions and instructions to find your “niche” or get specific if you already have one, whether you’re in business already or just starting out. Becoming A Leader
This part of the section he shows you how to be the most effective charismatic leader you can be. Here are some snippets of each:

- Understanding persuasion. “People will do anything for those who encourage their dreams, justify their failures, allay their fears, confirm their suspicions, and help them throw rocks at their enemies.” Russell Brunson elaborates and breaks down that golden nugget of a sentence in-depth and how to apply it.
- Care… a LOT. If your audience thinks you are just in this to make money, your vehicle for change will not last long. Your following will not grow. In fact, it will shrink up very quickly.
- Offer them value from their perceived relationship with you. You have to realize that people join groups, for different reasons. Some people come because they want an immediate return on their investment, while others are there just to learn. Others come because they want to show off. Some people want community. And some just don’t have anything better to do. If you try to force “success” as you see it on them when they really just want to be part of your community or they just love learning, it’s easy to alienate people from your tribe. They have to get the value as they define it.
2. The Cause
Russell then goes into the second piece you need for creating a mass movement; a future-based cause for themselves and their community. Here is an outline of the key principles:
- Where can my people place their hope and faith?
- How will I help them break their 4-minute mile?
- What will be our self-identification? “I’m a __________.”
- Create your own Title of Liberty. Something your culture can look at when they’re feeling doubtful– a rallying call.

- Title of Liberty #2: THE Manifesto
- Title of Liberty #3: Video Title Sequence (More Advanced)
During this entire part he, he goes into exact strategies, tactics and real-life examples of what he’s teaching with examples from his own and some of his students’ $1,000,000 funnels.
3. The New Opportunity
Here Russell goes into the last piece of the puzzle you need to create a mass movement. He says this is by far the most important, but least understood element.
Most often, when people start thinking about the product or the service they want to offer, they start by looking around at what is already out there, and then try to “build a better mousetrap”. When you do that, you’re not offering them a new opportunity, you are offering them what we call an “improvement” offer.
People DON’T want improvement offers. Improvement offers are much harder to sell for a lot of reasons.
- Improvement is hard. Most people have tried to improve in the past, and for some reason, it didn’t work.
- Desire vs. Ambition. All people have desire, but very few have ambition. Improvement offers are selling to overachieving people, which is an EXTREMELY low percentage of the population. If you do this type of offer you’re automatically excluding 98% of the world.
- Memories of Poor Past Decisions. No one wants to admit when they’re wrong. Yet an improvement offer forces them to admit they’ve failed.
- Commodity Pricing. When you’re selling improvement, you’re selling against dozens or hundreds of other improvement offers out there. This pushes pricing down and quickly turns into a race to the bottom in terms of pricing.
Russell then breaks down the variable that causes people to MOVE or not move… “Status”.
Why People Crave New Opportunities
- New Discovery. When people discover your new opportunity for the first time, they’re going to want to share it because sharing something new gives them an immediate increase of status.
- No pain of disconnect. They don’t have to admit they made bad decisions in the past, there is no longer a huge pain of disconnect from what they’re currently doing. Improvement offers sell THROUGH the pain, where new opportunities sell AWAY from the pain.
- Dream replacement. When you make a new opportunity, you’re giving them a new dream to move toward and away from fear.
- Greener pastures. Instead of trying to convince people that their grass is green or offering to fix their grass, allow them to follow you to the other side of the fence. Stop trying to make existing things that aren’t working better, and focus on fresh, exciting, NEW ideas that will inspire people to follow you.
Creating The New Opportunity, Their Vehicle For Change
Russell says since there are a lot of ways to structure improvement offers, there are only two ways to position a new opportunity, either as an Opportunity Switch or Opportunity Stack.
Opportunity Switching
- Each of our prospects has a desire for some result, and they have been trying to get that result through some vehicle.
- Your opportunity switch is to take them out of the vehicle they’re currently using and put them into a new one.
- It’s important to have them understand that they are leaving behind whatever old beliefs they had about how to achieve their desired results and putting their hope and faith into this new opportunity.
Opportunity Stacking
- After someone has made the switch into your new opportunity, then all future sales to that prospect are typically an opportunity stack, not an improvement offer.
- You don’t want to switch your prospects from an opportunity to opportunity because it will cause confusion and break trust.
- Offer them an opportunity stack within the new opportunity that they have just joined.
- Design other new opportunities within your opportunity that you can offer your people to serve them at a higher level.
